Gloeocapsa magma is the primary organism responsible for the black streaks seen on both asphalt shingle and tile roofs. This photosynthetic cyanobacterium thrives in warm, humid climates, forming dark stains that detract from your home's appearance.
The Solution
Our copper sulfate based treatment works by releasing copper ions that disrupt the cellular function of Gloeocapsa magma, damaging its structure and stopping it from growing and reproducing. As the algae dies off, weathering removes the residue from the roof surface. It also leaves behind a protective residual barrier that helps slow future organic regrowth, keeping your roof looking clean between treatements.
Our Treatment Process Explained
Step 1
We follow NRCA industry standards by using a soft washing method to safely clean your roof. In this process, we apply a carefully controlled solution containing sodium hypochlorite—the only time it is used during our service—to eliminate all organic growth such as algae, bacteria, moss, and lichen. This step is essential before treatment, as it ensures the roof surface is fully free of living organisms so our roof treatment can work effectively and provide longer-lasting results.

Step 2
Six months after the initial soft wash, we return to apply our proprietary, territory-protected treatment solution. This product is supplied exclusively to Semper Clean and is not available for use by any other contractor in Brevard County. Designed to inhibit the regrowth of Gloeocapsa magma and other organic contaminants, it creates a protective barrier that helps maintain a clean roof. The odorless treatment is powerful enough to be effective, yet safe for plants, grass, and pets.
Step 3
Following the initial treatment and protective application, we return every six months to maintain your roof’s protection. These scheduled maintenance visits help ensure the continued effectiveness of our treatment system, address any early signs of regrowth, and keep your roof looking clean and well-protected year-round.
We also blow off debris from your roof and gutters, repair cracked tiles, and perform a comprehensive visual inspection of your roof.
